Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean at the Xcel Energy Center

Luke Bryan. Jason Aldean. Wow.

I was fortunate enough to go to the Luke Bryan - Jason Aldean concert Friday night at the Xcel Energy Center. With songs like "All My Friends Say," "Drunk on You," "Country Girl (Shake it for Me)" by Luke Bryan and "Dirt Road Anthem," "Crazy Town," and "She's Country" blasted out by Aldean, you knew it would be a good show.

I don't think people really knew that it would be such a great show.

Luke Bryan was a charismatic performer that catered to the crowd in a way that Kenny Chesney would have. While Aldean wasn't as crowd-savvy, he definitely satisfied with a certain sexy cool behind his electric guitar and cowboy hat.

Bryan was as sexy as ever, almost stealing the show from Aldean for us younger gals. However, the show was perfect and I am again reminded of how much I love country!

Minnesota Wild Columbus Blue Jackets Game Review

R.J. Umberger scored a pair of goals, leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center. Ook... Wild, what is the game plan here? As you may recall, the Wild were at one point the leaders of the Western Conference. Take a look at the current standings:

This is completely not what Wild fans were hoping for.

Anyway, back to the game story. Devin Setoguchi scored for the Wild, while Niklas Backstrom earned 16 saves en route to the Wild's fourth straight loss.

Backstrom spoke out on the loss, "It sucks every time you lose. Winning is obviously more fun, but at least tonight we gave ourselves a chance to win." I hate to argue semantics, but losing 3-1 doesn't seem as though there was much of a chance. Maybe you had to be there?

Minnesota Swarm at the Xcel Energy Center

It is rare we shed light on the happenings of the Swarm, Minnesota's Lacrosse team.

However, on Friday the Swarm took over the Xcel in a game where they overwhelmed the Edmonton Rush 10-9. Following the win, Evan Kirk made 46 saves in his National Lacrosse League debut to power the Swarm to a 9-6 win over the Rochester Knighthawks on Sunday!

Minnesota is now sitting at 3-2 after winning their second game in three days. The win over the Knighthawks snapped a five-game losing streak that Rochester had over Minnesota.

I've never been to a swarm game, but I have a coworker who finds the games to be a ton of fun and fan-friendly. Not to mention, she said the Swarm roster is quite attractive! I'm making it my goal to go and check a game out before the season wraps up... who know's, maybe I'll meet Mr. Lacrosse.

World's Toughest Rodeo at the Xcel Energy Center

The World's Toughest Rodeo was at the Xcel Energy Center this past weekend, bringing cowboys and cowgirls alike to town.

The cowboys were challenged by each other in bull riding, bareback, saddle bronc and barrel racing categories. For a building built to house ice, it certainly was a sight to see as the no-fringes, no-holds-barred entertainment graced the Xcel.

Unlike most rodeos, the World's Toughest asks cowboys to compete in multiple events, known as the "Cowboy Ironman."

Van Halen Returns to Xcel Center

May 19th. Mark your calendars as one of the greatest musicians of all time returns to the Xcel Energy Center. Tickets for Van Halen went on sale January 14th for the May 19th show.

The tour starts ourt in Louisville, Kentucky on February 18th. St. Paul falls about three-quarters of the way through the itinerary. Other local venues are Chicago's United Center, Winnipeg's MTS Centre and Kansas City's Sprint Center.

The tour will feature original frontman David Lee Roth along with co-founding brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen. Eddie's son, Wolfgang, will once again replace original bassist and high-harmony vocalist Michael Anthony.

Country music sensation Brad Paisley's concert tour is coming to the St. Paul, Minnesota Xcel Energy Center on Saturday, January 14, 2012! The Brad Paisley Tour is called the "Camobunga 2012 World Tour" and the tour kicks off on January 12, 2012 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. St. Paul, Minnesota marks only the THIRD stop on the new tour, and the bands are sure to be fill of energy and excited about the tour starting! There are hardly ANY Brad Paisley tickets left out there, even on the secondary ticket market! If you're wanting to catch the Brad Paisley concert in Minnesota, you better buy your concert tickets now! Hallelujah! Minnesota currently has a professional sports team in the lead! I won't get in over my head here, but it's darn exciting news right now! The Minnesota Wild currently lead the NHL. The Minnesota Wild lead over Philadelphia by only one point. for Conference standings, the Chicago Blackhawks are two points behind the Minnesota Wild hockey team, and Minnesota leads the Northwest Division of the Western Conference by six points over the Vancouver Canucks.

Let's keep the cheering going for our Minnesota Wild hockey team! We need to keep at least one team winning, especially during the cold winter months, so things don't get too gloomy around here!

Jason Aldean tickets went on sale this morning for his show at the Xcel Energy Center on Friday, February 17th at 7:30pm. This Jason Aldean St. Paul concert has already proven to be quite popular! I don't know if the box office has any tickets left, or if they do, I think it is very few, or possibly only limited view!

Jason Aldean is bringing supporting acts Luke Bryan and Lauren Alaina with him to the Xcel!

I just read in Country People magazine that Jason Aldean is a HUGE Georgia Bulldogs fan. He even bought a bulldog that has shared bloodlines with the Georgia Bulldogs mascot bulldog, and he named his bulldog Athens, after the city name of where the Bulldogs play. This man has got some team spirit for the Georgia Bulldogs!

I also learned that Jason Aldean has two daughters! Crazy! I had no idea he was a father!

World's Toughest Rodeo Xcel Energy Center February 3-4, 2012

The World's Toughest Rodeo is coming back to Minnesota again this winter! The Xcel Energy Center hosts the World's Toughest Rodeo on Friday February 3 and Saturday February 4, 2012 at 7:30pm each night. Doors open at the Xcel Energy Center at 6:3opm.

Saturday night's World's Toughest Rodeo tickets will also include a concert by Justin Moore after the rodeo, which is the "Party On The Dirt". You must win tickets on country radio station K102 to be able to party ON THE DIRT, but any rodeo fans with tickets for the World's Toughest Rodeo will be able to stay for the concert. Justin Moore recently was nominated for an American Country Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Justin Moore may be currently most recognized for his No. 1 single "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away".

Three of the comedians from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour will be cracking up fans at the Xcel Energy Center on November 18, 2011 at 8pm. Ron White will not be at this tour, but Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, and Larry the Cable Guy will all be in attendance to help you laugh your way to sore stomach muscles!

Doors open at 7pm for this comedy event. Your ticket also includes seeing special guest Reno Collier.

All of these artists have a schtick they are widely known for. Foxworthy for his redneck jokes as well as Host on his show "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"

Bill "Here's Your Sign" Engvall is the game show Host for "LINGO" on the Game Show Network, and has written several books.

You know Larry The Cable Guy from his catchphrase, "Git-R-Done," and he is also hosting a show on the History Channel.

Roger Waters "The Wall" to return to St Paul Xcel Energy Center June 3, 2012

Roger Waters' "The Wall" will return to St. Paul on June 3, 2012 at the Xcel Energy Center! The 2012 tour will feature a full band and a mounted state-of-the-art production of Waters' epochal masterpiece of alienation and transformation performed in it's entirety.

Tickets for Roger Waters' "The Wall" Live Tour tickets go on sale on Monday November 14, 2011!

Xcel Energy Center wins awards for being green!

The Xcel Energy Center, along with the St Paul RiverCentre, released the 2nd annual Sustainability Report this week. The venues have successfully completed the "50-50 in 2" waste reduction initiative they set out to do. You, like me, may be wondering what the "50-50 in 2" means! Well, the X, RiverCentre and Roy Wilkins set out to reduce the amount of waste generated by 50% as well as increase the amount of recycling to 50%, by July 2011. Starting two years ago, these venues increased the amount of recycling bins--which is now 1 to 1 with trash cans!

Over 90% of the food service disposables have been switched to compostables, which has made some areas, such as the Treasure Island Ice Lodge in the Xcel, to become almost trash-free! The cups, plates and utensils are now added along with food leftovers into a compost. All bottles and cans are recycled.

These facilities also won the 2011 Recycling Association of Minnesota's 'Green Project' Award for the leaps and bounds reduction in waste they have made!

Minnesota Wild Treasure Island Ice Lodge access!

Have you heard that the Xcel Energy Center has a Treasure Island Ice Lodge pass?!

When you order Minnesota Wild tickets that are on the glass (OTG) tickets, you receive access to the Treasure Island (TI) Ice Lodge. In the Ice Lodge, you receive complimentary food and beverages, starting an hour and a half before the start of all Minnesota Wild home games, and the Lodge stays open until at least an hour following the Wild game.

Beer, wine and soda are all complimentary, and mixed drinks are available for purchase at the cash bar in the Lodge. The menu consists of carved sandwiches, salads, hot dogs and gourmet desserts. Starting when the Ice Lodge opens and being served through the first intermission are the sandwiches and salads. Hot dogs and snacks are surved all game and post game, and desserts are served starting during the second intermission and post-game.

You must have either an OTG ticket, or a TI Ice Lodge pass to gain valid entry into the Treasure Island Ice Lodge. The OTG ticket will be hole-punched, and the TI Ice Lodge pass will be surrendered, and in both cases, you will receive a wristband. This wristband will be needed to regain entry back into the Lodge after the initial visit.

What an awesome option to have to make going to a Minnesota Wild game a little bit more special! Think of the people you could impress by bringing them to a Wild game to sit in on the glass seats, and hang out in the Ice Lodge! Business associates and family alike would be impressed!

The Minnesota Wild have had a fairly good start to the 2011-2012 NHL season! The Minnesota Wild Standings put the Wild in 2nd place in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference, and 4th place overall in the Western Conference.

If you're a Minnesota Wild fan, you should come to the next home game and help cheer on the home team! The Wild are currently 2-0 at home, so let's keep that home field advantage going!
I am hoping that the Wild are the Minnesota sports team that will really give us something to cheer about this year!

The Xcel Energy Center is welcoming back their major tennant from a long off-season, the MINNESOTA WILD!

With the exception of the Minnesota Twins, all of the major sports teams in Minnesota will be/are experiencing the transition that coincides with a new head coach.

The Vikings are 0-2 under new head coach Leslie Frazier. The Minnesota Timberwolves just hired Rick Adelman. And the Minnesota Wild... Mike Yeo. (Even the Gophers have a new boss)

Yeo has a reputation of holding a serious work ethic and pushing his players to have the same. Yeo has said this job with the Wild has been a long time coming, a story more than 20 years in the making. He started taking notes on coaching over two decades ago and has finally landed his goal position: an NHL head coach.

Yeo is looking to bring a strong defensive system to the Wild, applying tough pressure to the puck, forcing their opponents to think quickly - forcing erros. He recognizes there may be no quick fix for a team three years out of the playoffs, but is striving to bring glory back to the ice of Minnesota.

I Like This New Head Coach

I don't know about anyone else, but Mike Yeo is growing on to me. At first, I was a little skeptical. I didn't like that he didn't really have any experience being a head coach in the NHL, or much experience at all coaching in the NHL. I really like that he went to Finland to meet with Niklas Backstrom and Mikko Koivu. That's an excellent plan of attack. It shows those two players how much Yeo thinks of them. Also, if he wants this team to get behind him, he's going to need the support of his best players. Without their support, he has pretty much no chance of getting the rest of the team to buy into what he's telling them. So great job by Yeo, you're really starting to get my stamp of approval.

Wild Buying Out Cam Barker

Once a former No. 4 overall pick filled with promise, Cam Barker is hitting a low point in his career. The Wild placed him on waivers yesterday, and any team in the league can take on the rest of the 25 year old defenseman's salary if they pick him up on waivers. Supposedly Baker's agent has contacted the team, pleading with them to keep Barker on the team for next seson.

Barker has had two spotty seasons with the Wild. He has been injured for parts of both of them but the production simply has not been there.

You know, Cam, we really wish this would have worked out. The Wild really believed in you, I mean thye spent the no.4 pick in the 2004 draft on you, but this really isn't working out. You didn't pan out the way the Wild had hoped and you will likely play elsewhere because of it.

Hey everyone the Minnesota Wild have finally hired a new coach. This past friday, they hired Mike Yeo as the new head coach of the team. In my opinion, this was a pretty spotty decision. They probably should have hired someone who knew a thing or two more about coaching an NHL team. This guy has no experience.

Butttt, it will also be a lot of fun to see what he can do. I hope he turns out to be a great coach and that the Wiild get their mojo back. Over the next few weeks, I will write about the games I am most looking forward to for the Minnesota Wild. The first game I will start off with is November 20 against the New York Rangers at the Xcel Energy Center. The New York Rangers are not the most glamorous team in the NHL, I get that. What this game does bring is two former Minnesota Wild fan favorites back to the Xcel. Marian Gaborik and Derek Boogaard were two of the most popular players for the Minnesota Wild at one point.

Until Marian Gaborik had his falling out with the staff and decided to sit out games because of injury, he was the consensus face of the franchise. Derek Boogaard was a crowd pleaser with fights and big hits right up until he entered free agency. The New York Rangers offered him a contract he could not refuse this offseason. For those reasons, I am looking forward to the New York Rangers at the Xcel Energy Center on November 20th.

Okay, maybe the 2010-2011 NHL season isn't right around the corner but for Wild fans it feels pretty close. Even though the Chicago Blackhawks claimed Lord Stanley just two weeks ago, the Minnesota Wild have been finished since early April. The Wild will begin the NHL regular season on October 7th against the Carolina Hurricanes in Finland, which is only 105 days away for those of you counting at home. The team will be starting their preseason on September 15 in St. Louis against the Blues. However, there is an important event for the Wild this weekend which will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The Staples Center will be hosting the NHL Draft and will offer another opportunity for the Wild to add another piece to the puzzle. Analysts predict the Wild will select a forward, a position the Wild could use to help the offense out. Perhaps the Wild will draft another Marian Gaborik, which would be just what Wild fans would like to see. Either way, October 7th will be approaching before we know it and the Wild will be underway for their quest of the cup.

When it comes to summer concert venues in the Twin Cities, the Xcel Energy Center tops the list this year for great concerts in almost every genre. However, in order to be at the top of the Twin Cities Concert Venues list, it takes some work… work that the Xcel Energy Center Staff is getting prepared for already. Setting up, sound checking and making sure a concert goes well takes lots of behind the scenes work and on June 21^st and June 22^nd the Xcel Energy Center is going to be doing double duty. Heading to a Summer Concert at the Xcel Energy Center? You will have to plan ahead if you want to park near the Xcel Energy Center. Parking near the Xcel Energy Center is less about getting to the Xcel Energy Center and more about leaving the Xcel Energy Center. Parking near the Xcel Energy Center means parking in city ramps and surface lots, it also means walking. So my advice is, instead of thinking how close to the Xcel Energy Center can I park... think about where you will want to leave downtown St. Paul at. If you are going to drive into St. Paul on W 7th think about parking a little farther away to avoid the traffic after an Xcel Energy Center event. If you are leaving on 94W you may want to park in a parking ramp off of Kellogg. No matter where you are going, parking near the Xcel Energy Center is better if you plan ahead!

Folk-rock music legends Simon and Garfunkel will be at the St. Paul Xcel Energy Center on Saturday May 8th at 8:00pm.

The duo became famous in the 50's and 60's and blew up with hits like "The Sound of Silence" and several songs off of "The Graduate" soundtrack including "Mrs. Robinson" the now iconic song about the ultimate cougar. The snow may be melting and spring may be right around the corner but Hockey season is still in full swing at the Xcel Energy Center with the Minnesota High School Hockey Tournament this weekend.

The Minnesota High School State Hockey Tournament started on Wednesday with the Class A teams playing quarterfinal games. Class AA played quarterfinals on Thursday. Today both classes play semi-finals. Third place and the Minnesota High School Championship Game will be on Saturday.

Minnesota High School Hockey Tickets are required for all games. Although the Xcel Energy Center has High School Hockey Tickets, they are releasing them just before game time, making the X a very chaotic place to be. A friend of mine, who went on Thursday told me that he went to Ticket King, just a block from the Xcel on 7th Street and purchased Minnesota High School Hockey Tickets with no line and no hassle. If you are planning on coming downtown for the tournament, keep Ticket King in mind!
